Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) provides peer-based services and resources for depression and bipolar disorder.

Families for Depression Awareness helps families recognize and cope with depression and bipolar disorder to get people well and prevent suicides. They provide education, training, and support to unite families and help them heal while coping with mood disorders.

FamilyMeans’ Center for Grief & Loss provides specialized therapy for complicated grief, trauma, and life transitions.

#BeThe1To is a movement supported by the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, which includes five action steps, stories, resources, tips, and messages about suicide prevention.

StrongHearts Native Helpline (1-844-7NATIVE) is a safe, anonymous, and confidential domestic, dating, and sexual violence helpline for American Indians and Alaska Natives. Available daily from 7:00am to 10:00pm CT.

Local (MN) Shelters

Lewis House Shelters is part of an outreach program called 360 Communities. The houses provide emergency shelter and assistance to individuals and families who are fleeing domestic violence situations. At the Lewis House, trained advocates give emotional support, safety planning for the future, and give other resources within the communities in efforts to end the cycle of domestic violence for victims.

Tubman is a Twin Cities organization that helps people struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, mental health, and other forms of trauma. They provide safe shelter, legal services, counseling, elder care resources, youth programming, and community education.

Women of Nations provides culturally-specific emergency services and support to all who have experienced trauma from domestic violence and sexual assault. They empower Native American communities to put an end to all forms of violence through education and prevention. Women of Nations provides safety and shelter from domestic violence in St. Paul, MN.

Asian Women United of Minnesota (AWUM) is an organization that provides a safe place for all women and their children dealing with any form of domestic violence. They offer a domestic violence shelter, support, legal and financial advocacy, a multilingual helpline, and many other resources.

Casa de Esperanza, an organization based in St. Paul, is the largest Latina organization in the country focused on domestic violence. They provide emergency shelter for Latinas and other women and children experiencing domestic violence as well as family advocacy and community support.

Support Groups

The 360 Community Support Groups helps women and youth to share their experiences within support groups. There is a form that can be filled out on the website if you are interested in joining a domestic and/or sexual violence support group.

1in6 is dedicated to helping men who have had unwanted or abusive sexual experiences live happier and healthier lives. Their services include free and confidential weekly online support groups, a 24/7 online helpline, survivor stories, and other resources for men who have experienced sexual abuse or assault.

Violence Free Minnesota is an organization dedicated to ending relationship abuse and working toward a violence free state.

Mending the Sacred Hoop is a Duluth-based organization that works from a social change perspective to end violence against Native American women and children while restoring the safety, sovereignty, and sacredness of Native women. They provide training and strive for advocacy, community understanding and response, and engage men in the work to end violence against women.

Minnesota Indian Women’s Sexual Violence Coalition strengthens the voices of Native American women through unity and builds resources to create awareness and eliminate sexual violence against Indian women and children.

Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault provides advocacy support, training, prevention resources, and other important resources regarding sexual assault, exploitation, and trafficking.

    •The Coming Out Handbook (the Trevor Project) is a comprehensive guide for any questions regarding sexuality and gender.

   •Run by and for trans people. They also provide trans peer support, connection to the community, and resources for surviving and thriving.

LGBTQIA+ Support Groups & Counseling

This Dakota county website offers various options for support groups within Dakota County, MN. There are brief descriptions on each support group and their focus.

Bridge for Youth is a Minneapolis-based organization for LGBTQ+ youth aged 10 to 17 who are experiencing homelessness. They offer support groups for individuals to connect and get help.

TIGERRS is a Minnesota program designed to support trans/intersex/gender-expansive folks and includes social support groups for kids under 12 and teens 13 to 18 as well as a variety of other resources.

OutFront Minnesota is a website that provides website information on support groups, trans therapists, and counseling services for LGBTQ+ individuals, youth, homeless youth, etc.

Transforming Families is a community where transgender, gender nonconforming, and questioning youth and their families come together to support each other in a safe, welcoming space.

Reclaim! works to change the landscape of access to mental health support in the Twin Cities so that queer and trans youth (ages 13-25) may reclaim their lives from oppression in all its forms. They provide therapy and access to other important resources.

The Aliveness Project is a Minneapolis organization founded by (and driven by) people living with HIV. They facilitate connections to the community, offer nutrition and wellness services, and link members to resources to lead fulfilling and healthy lives.

Rural AIDS Action Network is leading rural Minnesota in the fight to stop HIV through a broad array of client services, risk reduction, advocacy, and awareness. They provide counseling, medical services, case management, and more to clients in 80 counties outside the Twin Cities metro area.

U of M Youth and AIDS Project (YAP) helps to prevent the transmission of HIV to and from high-risk youth through developmentally appropriate, culturally competent, coordinated, and family-centered care.

JustUs Health envisions a Minnesota where diverse gender, sexual, and cultural communities experience health and wellness in powerfully inclusive environments.
